Fly Lines & Water Temperatures Explained - Chart by Scientific Anglers
This is a great guide to which fly lines are for different water temperatures. Many people don't realize that temperature plays a role in fly line performance. Most "freshwater" or trout fly lines are for colder water. Tropical or "Saltwater" lines are optimized to perform in water above 70 degrees. Most fly lines will explain which kind they are in the name or at least in the description. If you aren't sure, feel free to ask our pro team.
Lines are usually broken down into "Freshwater" or "Saltwater" fly lines and customers may then believe salinity is the key. Actually it's temperature - so you can use a "Saltwater" line in freshwater if it's warm enough, and vice versa (a "freshwater" line in colder saltwater situations).
