Umpqua’s Merkwan pattern (Half Merkin Crab, Half Kwan) has a crab/shrimp look that was created specifically to be fished in shallow to moderate flats for Redfish, Bonefish, Permit & More! The ideal presentation to a skinny water red would be to lead it by two to three feet and slowly intercept the fish allowing it to discover the fly. Then deliver a slight bump to elicit a response and chances are you’ll get tight.
